Alluvial soil, moist to wet clay loam, stream - river terrace.; Floodplain forest, relatively undisturbed and diverse, with Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Quercus spp. Carya laciniosa, Acer saccharinum, Ilex decidua, Cephalanthus occidentalis, Cornus drummondii.; Occasional tree about 10 meters tall; leaves pale beneath; few fruiting, acorns stalked. In older-growth, rather undisturbed portion of forest.
