Sambucus canadensis, Cephalanthus occidentalis, Rubus argutus, Vitis rotundifolia, Boehmeria cylindrica. Berchemia scandens. Nearby water oak, tuliptree, sweetbay, and blackgum.
Inflorescences grossly pale, dull purplish. Lvs. somewhat rugose, a dark glossy green to bluish green on topside; paler, without luster, underneath. Midstem lvs. generally in whorls of 5. Most petioles were purplish, some deeply pigmented. Stems hollow, dull greenish-purplish, with a glaucous bloom. Plants commonly ca. 8 to 10 ft. tall (a few ca. 12 ft.).
